Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry conducts a unique activity by researching, documenting and storing in digital formats information on the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of fisheries communities on the Bulgarian and Romanian sides of the Danube River. The new initiative combines scientific interest in the unexplored area with the idea of generating economic benefits for the region by developing new joint tourist routes to little known places.
The field audiovisual study, assigned to the "Memory for the Danube Fishermen", is conducted in five pairs of settlements from Bulgaria and Romania with traditional fishing settlements, boat stands, fish markets and festivals: Silistra (Tataritsa) – Calarasi, Vetren (Srebarna) - Mostistea-Galatui, Tutrakan – Oltenitsa, Ruse (Brashlen) – Giurgiu, Vidin (Kutovo, Antimovo) – Calafat.
The survey results - videos, films, audio recordings, photos (including from a drone) - are planned to be available on a web platform in order to be used by future researchers and travel agencies.
The study marks the beginning of project „Memofish. Memory and future. Stories about the Danube civilization“. BRCCI’s partners in its implementation are Association „Paralel–Silistra“, Rousse Regional Museum of History, Acces Association – Calarasi, Fishing Local Action Group Association „Dunarea Calaraseana“, and the financing programme is Interreg V-A Romania – Bulgaria.
