„Srebarna“ – riverside lake, part of the world natural heritage, protected by UNESCO. The lake is a habitat to hundreds of animal species, 50 species are in the Red Data Book of Bulgaria. It’s a place to stop along Via Pontica, the birds’ flight route.
Canal „Borcha“ – a 70-km Danube canal, separates at Calarasi and Ostrov, and flows back into the river near the village of Giurgeni - offers a view towards untouched nature and wild forest territories.
The Danube islands near Calarasi - important river basin ecosystems - nesting platforms of the Danube hawk are located on Pisica Island, Natura 2000 protected areas.
The Yalomitsa swamp is a fishermen paradise. Part of it has been declared a reserve.
