DEMONSTRATION TRIPS STARTED ON THE “MEMOFISH” ROUTES

02.09.2019

With the first group of 15 youths from the Silistra district and Calarasi county started the demonstration trips on the tourist routes, which are connected with the heritage of the fisheries communities on the Danube and were created under project „Memofish“.

The tourist routes were developed by the Rousse Regional Museum of History, project partner. They are integrated tourist products, since they include sites from Bulgaria and Romania within the same trip. They were designed to highlight the tourism potential of five pairs of settlements from the Romania-Bulgaria cross-border area, whose fisheries heritage was explored at the beginning of the project through a unique audiovisual study. Three types of tourist routes have been created for each of the five pairs of settlements - for large groups, for young people and for family tourism, which will be tested through three demonstration trips within the project.

The first youth trip from Bulgaria and Romania was organized by Association „Paralel-Silistra“, project partner. The participants explored the historical sites in the Silistra-Calarasi region and became acquainted with the fishing traditions that have survived in Tutrakan and Ciocanesti. A rowing hike and a photo safari was organized for them. The next two trips – for a large group and for family tourism, will take place in the late autumn and will be organized by the Romanian partners Acces Association – Calarasi and FLAG „Dunarea Calaraseana“. Each of them will include both Bulgarians and Romanians.

The tourist routes, together with the audiovisual materials for their promotion, will soon be published on the project’s website for free use by everybody interested in tourism in a preserved natural environment and communication with the heritage of fisheries communities.

The promotional trips are part of project „Memofish. Memory and future. Stories about the Danube civilization“, which is implemented by five organizations with Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry as a leading partner with the financial support of programme Interreg V-A Romania – Bulgaria.
