The ban on catching predatory fish on the Danube has been extended

The ban on commercial fishing for certain species of predatory fish in the Danube has been extended until May 31st including, according to an order of the Minister of Agriculture Desislava Taneva. White fish, pike, bream and carrageenan, also known as Danube mackerel, remain protected.

If fish of these species are caught in the nets, the caught specimens must be returned to the water immediately, regardless of their condition, the order states.

The ban does not affect recreational fishing in the Danube River. The extension is on the recommendation of the Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture and aims to prevent the catch of spring-summer breeding fish.
