The kingdom of water lilies awaits its visitors

03.06.2020

The "Kingdom of water lilies" is the name of the lake near the village of Malak Preslavets, district Silistra. There is the largest colony of white water lily in Bulgaria, located on an area of 4.6 ha. In June, the lilies bloom and reveal their beauty to the visitors.

In the last 10 years, at the beginning of the month, the traditional Water Lilies Festival is held, which this year will not be held due to the corona virus and the restrictions imposed by the authorities for its limitation.

The lake with white water lilies is located 4 km from the village of Malak Preslavets, next to the Danube River and only 30 km from the Srebarna Reserve. Another 180 different plants grow in the area and more than 140 species of birds can be observed.

The place is suitable for fishing, walking and relaxing in nature. At the mayor's office of the village there is an Information Centre, which offers information materials, binoculars for nature lovers. There are eco-trails built and marked around the lake, and next to it is the Fisherman's Village, where you can buy fresh fish. The place is very suitable for a picnic by the Danube River.
